Magic Week

Summary of Anong Nagbago?:

The story of Anong Nagbago? follows a Filipino-American student newspaper, Anong Bago?, amidst growing anti-immigrant sentiment in the community. Rey, an aspiring journalist who is looking for his next obra maestra, seeks to call attention to Filipinos in the diaspora with a new opinion piece. This is how he meets Jace, an immigrant working to support his sister through university and petitioning for his family to come to the United States, eventually culminating in Jace writing his own piece for the club. Despite being polar opposites, they soon form an unlikely partnership. External pressures soon threaten Anong Bago’s survival, and as the issues come to a head, Rey and Jace realize that their differences in status, experiences, and worldviews threaten to dismantle everything they fought for together. Yet, through taking the conscious effort to see each other’s perspectives, they discover that in diversity lies their greatest strength. Through their journey, we learn that the kind of positive change we seek in the world cannot be achieved alone, but with a community united in one voice and one purpose.
