FAST Committee Meeting THIS FRIDAY 5:00PM

In 2007, FCA, in collaboration with the Asian American Studies Program (AAST), formed the curriculum of UMD’s first Filipino American History course - one of only two of it’s kind offered on the East Coast. Since then, two AAST scholarships, named after two prominent Filipino Americans (Phiilip Vera Cruz & Major Antonio Taguba), have been created and a Philippine Study Abroad was set up last semester for a future studies abroad program.

As you can see, Filipino American Studies (FAST), has grown significantly throughout the years, but it can only continue to grow with your help! Please fill out the following survey so that we can better understand your interests regarding the program

In addition the survey, FCA will be having a FAST Interest Meeting on Friday, November 15th at 5pm to discuss the future of the Filipino American Studies Program. Interested in serving as a potential member of the FAST Committee?

Please e-mail Krystle Canare for more details.

Cultural Practice: Nov. 17

Hey guys! Just letting you know that this coming week we will start practicing Idaw as next Sunday's cultural dance. This means that you guys out there should come out! Ladies are welcome too of course. We will be in Chem Atrium as always, but since Turkey Bowl is over we will be starting at 12 o'clock noon now rather than 2 pm as in the past few weeks.

Hope to see you there!

FIND Dialogue updates

We apologize for the late update and we are sorry to bring this news, but FIND Dialogue 2013 has been cancelled this year. District 3 ran into issues with their logisitics and room reservations and could not resolve them in time for the event. It is unfortunate this had to happen, and D6 had absolulely no control over this situation.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact your D6 reps.

Congrats to last Saturday's TurkeyBowl players and to the LadyTerp's 4th championship victory!

FACES Fashion Show

Tickets for the show will go on sale starting November 11! The pre-sale price is $5. Prices increase to $8 the day of the show. You can buy tickets from any one of the models or from one of our FACES Core Members Katie Gagan, Alexandra Fitch, Dana Ong, and Kirk Vallespin. We will give you an update on whether they will be sold at the Hoff Theater soon. If so, they will mostly likely be on sale the week of the show. Be sure to invite your friends and family. It'll be a night to "remember"! (because you know the theme is Nostalgic Nights......see what I did there?)

Check the Facebook Event!

The #umdfaces Instavideo contest is closing on NOV. 14. People have yet to enter, so your chances of winning would be very likely if you choose to participate! Again, the prizes are 2 tickets to the show and an FCA t-shirt. I encourage you all to take part in the contest because you would be helping to promote the show in addition to getting some cool rewards!

Modern Practice

It's almost Semi and it's time to crunch down on practices! This Monday from 6PM to 7:30PM, Karen Crisostomo will be teaching a partner piece, so get ready to partner up and battle it out together in this fierce dance. Then, on Wednesday from 6PM to 8PM, Randy Flores will be teaching the piece for Hawkeye. This sharp piece will make you feeling like Hawkeye himself! We only have a few weeks left, so make sure you're coming out to practices. Don't be the one left out at Semi when all your friends are showing the rest of D6 all the awesome dances learned so far! See everyone this week!

Community Outreach

Rise Above the Isms Week
MICA along with the Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI) is sponsoring a weeklong series of events to engage the entire campus community in a transformative dialogue on the "-isms", their devastating effects, and how we can collectively move beyond them. The week from November 11 to 14, entitled "Rise Above '-isms'", will offer a number of educational opportunities for all members of the campus community. The programs will use various learning modalities and methods to actively challenge entrenched attitudes and facilitate authentic conversations on this sensitive issue. ODI hopes to stimulate students, staff, and faculty to consider our own biases and stereotypes, to explore their impact on our campus community and the world beyond, and to commit to fully embracing equity, diversity and inclusion.

Peace. Love. FCA.
